Sending a Direct Message allows you to send a private message over the GroupMe service to another GroupMe user.

To send a Direct Message from the smartphone app to another user:

  1. From the home screen of the app, you can search someone's name
  2. Select the the user you want to DM
  3. Type the message and send!

You can also tap on any user's avatar anywhere in the app, and you'll be brought to a page where you can send them a direct message.

DMs will be displayed with the rest of your groups in the "Home" tab of the app.

Sending DMs is currently only supported on our iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry apps, but coming to the rest of our platforms soon.

Note: If you send a DM to a GroupMe user without our latest app (4.0 or greater), they will be prompted via SMS to update their app in order to see and respond to your message.
